Gulf Electric Company was founded in 1974 by Martin Simpson. Martin moved to Florida to finish
highschool and drove from Arizona by himself with no spare tires. He enrolled in high school and
was getting the best grades he had ever gotten when the school board took him out of school
because he had no legal guardian in the same state. After working seven days a week and going to
night school after hours he finished his schooling. He became an Electrical Superintendent at 19 for
(2) large Tampa Companies. He enrolled in Tampa Construction School and; after graduation started
Gulf Electric Company with $150 and a pick-up truck.
Married 28 years to Polly, One Son Wesley, Daughter In-Law Jenn and three Grandchildren.
Hobbies: Taking clients alligator hunting all over the state of Florida Air Boating, Fishing, and Antiquing
We have a team of 7 Project Managers that oversee their jobs. They bid, estimate, and manage
their own jobs.
Gulf supports Feeding Tampa Bay, several Christmas drives, and Animal Shelters. We have sponsored
soccer teams, USF Football, USF baseball and the local Circus through Shriners.

Gulf Electric has been in business for 48 years. This company is well known in the local workforce and has a long list of devoted clients. We focus primarily on commercial and industrial construction. We also have a service department to service our customers’ needs. We offer a 1-year warranty on labor and materials. Gulf also supports and builds turnkey refrigeration and generator projects.
We currently employee 36 employees, offering full medical (health, dental, vision & life) insurance, paid holidays, and a safe and; drug-free environment. Safety meetings are offered weekly. We offer a 4-year apprenticeship school to new prospects and in field training if they maintain a good standard of grading Marty Simpson, has been running the company and will continue in the interim until new management has been selected.
